About the Galileo Incubation Programme

The Galileo Incubation Programme (formerly E-GNSS Accelerator) is an integral part of the Galileo Masters 2021. This unique initiative funded by the European Commission (COM) aims at supporting entrepreneurs and startups to move beyond idea conception into business incubation in order to develop their solutions into true commercial ventures.

The Top 12 Galileo Masters winners are invited to an exclusive Bootcamp, which will take place before the Space Awards. During this Bootcamp and with the support of proven technical and business experts, the Galileo Incubation nominates the top six candidates, who receive incubation and acceleration prize packages worth up to EUR 62,000 each. These six winners will be announced during the Space Awards. The incubation prizes are co-funded by up to 70% by COM.

Incubation Network

The Galileo Incubation Programme allows its winners to get their space business off the ground and be supported by first-class incubators of their choice all over Europe. The Galileo Masters encompasses a Europe-wide network of more than 50 incubators.

The EGNSS Bootcamp Incubation Prize Winner 2019 and Galileo Masters UK Challenge winner 2019

The 2019 Galileo Masters UK Challenge winner MEDeus is a technology company with a vision to transform the healthcare industry by creating an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based, autonomous drone delivery service. Their solution will efficiently transport medicines, blood, organs and many other items, between secure hospital sites. This novel system will improve patient care, save the National Health Service (NHS) money and drastically reduce carbon emissions from our roads. Compared to current ground couriers, their fully-electric drones will be faster, cheaper, and truly on-demand.

EGNSS Bootcamp Crowdfunding Prize Winner 2019

Motorbike driving is very dangerous, every year there are about 30.000 accidents with 700 fatal injuries. RideLink develops an AI based driving assistance for motorbikes to reduce the amount of accidents by 10.000. Basically RideLink analyzes the driving behavior, the street conditions as well as the weather conditions to help the driver adapt its speed to the current situation.

Galileo Masters Winner Hessen / Germany 2018Deep Blue Globe the EGNSS Bootcamp “Overall Winner” 2018, winner of the Galileo Masters Hesse Challenge 2018 and 2019 Copernicus Masters finalist

Deep Blue Globe, the 2018 winner of the Galileo Masters Hesse Challenge and 2019 Copernicus Masters finalist, is a startup based in Darmstadt (Germany) that develops AI (artificial intelligence) solutions for the maritime industry based on space technology. Founded by a team of engineers working for the European Space Agency (ESA), Deep Blue Globe wants to bring advanced technologies used in the IT and NewSpace sectors to revolutionise the maritime industry.

During its journey, Deep Blue Globe has received support from ESA through its incubation in the ESA BIC network and additional contracts to develop the required technology. ESA support, together with the partnerships and collaboration agreements established with NVIDIA and the WEkEO consortium (including EUMETSAT, Mercator Ocean and ECMWF) helped the company to develop Poseidon, the maritime voyage routing tool that takes into account Earth observation (EO) data, weather conditions and the maritime traffic in order to provide the optimal route to vessels so the maritime operators can save time, fuel and money in their journeys.

E-GNSS Accelerator - CENTRIP - Speaker Pierre Delsaux, Deputy Director General European CommissionThe Galileo Masters 2017 Challenge “60 Years of EU: The most innovative application fostering European Integration – presented by GSA” winner: CENTRIP!

For many European countries, security is an important topic nowadays. The market needs a solution that can help ensure the wellbeing of children – which is where CENTRIP comes into play. CENTRIP is a student management system for school trips that protects and monitors children during outdoor activities. It helps educators or other responsible individuals keep control and reduce the risk of incidents whilst allowing children to discover the world outside kindergartens and schools.

CENTRIP combines GNSS and ZigBee technologies in an innovative way to ensure a group‘s safety. Devices for teachers and students independently compute their absolute positions, exchange this information, and simultaneously calculate relative positions to measure the distances between them. If a receiver exceeds the maximum allowed distance, an alarm signal is sent to the student and teacher devices in question to allow for quick and appropriate action. The ZigBee module provides connectivity even when underground (in subway stations, for instance). With CENTRIP’s support, teachers and the parents of young kids can make sure that children are exploring the world safely.

Galicia Sabine DannelkeThe winning solution of the Galileo Masters 2017 Galicia / Spain Challenge

After earthquakes, terrorist attacks and other disasters, thousands of people can be trapped inside collapsed houses, factories or public buildings. Using radar technology that penetrates various materials, ALIVETOR is able find buried victims near the surface of rubble. Its radar sensor is mounted onto a UAV, allowing the solution to cover vast areas in a reasonable time. The solution works by capturing and positioning a victim’s movements or, if the victim is unconscious or resting, by detecting the minimal displacements caused by respiration. The advantages of ALIVETOR: › Detection of live victims, which is the primary concern during post-disaster scenarios › UAV covers vast areas more quickly than common existing methods › Sensors use GNSS signals to achieve robust, accurate coverage of multiple locations In post-disaster scenarios, victims don’t have access to food or drink and can be severely injured. This makes ALIVETOR’s fast response time vitally important. In such scenarios, the UAV follows a three-step procedure: Fly, land, and detect. By providing first responders with quick, reliable and detailed descriptions of damaged areas, ALIVETOR helps them save lives.

E-GNSS Accelerator - Attestis - Speaker Pierre Delsaux, Deputy Director General European CommissionWinner of the ESA space solutions® Prize and France Challenge of the Galileo Masters in 2017

Attestis is a startup company that is using Galileo to develop digital proof services for the construction industry. Attestis targets building project owners (including consumers and businesses), which represent a market of more than 2 million construction projects every year. In several countries (such as France, Italy, Portugal, Finland, and Belgium), when a building permit is granted, planning regulations mandate that the owner displays a notice sign on the property to inform their neighbours, who then have a limited time to file an objection. To avoid late objections, litigation, and the destruction of ongoing or finished works, owners need proof that they have indeed displayed the mandatory sign. To this end, Attestis is developing a range of digital proof services based on a web platform, mobile applications, and a geolocation device embedded in the notice sign itself (patent pending). Compared to traditional documentation methods (i.e. an affidavit from a notary), Attestis provides better legal security at a much cheaper price. GNSS services are key to Attestis’s methods of rendering proof. The unique features of Galileo’s services also provide an essential advantage (high precision, Signal authentication, position certification).

kinexonAs the overall winner of Galileo Masters 2013, KINEXON was awarded a cash prize of EUR 10,000 that was co-funded by GEPAS

The scheme thus provided effective support that proved essential in implementing the winning business idea. The two PhD students behind it had developed a wearable sensor that can locate athletes with centimetre-level precision, along with a cloud-based monitoring system. They went on to start their own company at ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria (which is managed by AZO) and received additional follow-up financing. Since then, KINEXON has continued to grow: Its team now consists of about 40 members and cooperates with various partners, including a German Bundesliga soccer team. It also had the opportunity to participate in the world’s biggest industrial fair, Hannover Messe, in 2014. In addition, KINEXON made a huge technological breakthrough that has enabled the company to offer an indoor version of its product. It has thus widened its target market and is now working with retailers, hospitals, care homes, and manufacturers such as the American technology company Intel.

igeoliseThe success story of iGeolise began with its triumph in the United Kingdom Challenge in 2012. A cash prize, business and technical consulting, and PR support – all co-financed by GEPAS – helped these entrepreneurs get their winning idea off the ground

Their innovation involves a platform on which people can perform map searches in terms of time, turning miles into minutes in the process. As part of its prize package, iGeolise was featured in a PR campaign that included an interview in The Guardian, which directly led to its first big client: the property group Countrywide. Shortly thereafter, its members also entered incubation at ESA Business Incubation Centre Harwell (UK). But where does iGeolise stand today? The start-up has since developed into a company that employs 11 people and cooperates with major clients from various industries, such as VisitBritain and Nissan. It operates in several countries around the world, including the UK, the USA, Australia, Ireland, France, Switzerland, and Thailand. During its expansion, iGeolise also opened a branch office in Lithuania, which is where its technical team is now based. Just recently, EURONEWS – Business Planet broadcasted a programme detailing the company’s success story and the opportunities the ESNC offers to entrepreneurs in the space sector.

ampidoIn Galileo Masters 2013, Ampido won the GNSS Living Lab Prize with an app that helps people reserve and rent private parking spaces. This can greatly improve the traffic situation in densely populated cities

Thanks to consulting and product development assistance co-financed by GEPAS, the start-up has successfully established a position on the market. Today, Ampido claims to be the number-one parking app in Europe. The company operates in 150 cities and has official assignments from cities to rent out their public parking spaces and implement parking space management systems. Recently, Ampido accomplished another notable milestone in being accepted into the H2020 project GrowSmarter, which involves EUR 25 million in funding.

catuavIn 2011, CatUAV won the Catalonia Prize with a mini-UAV designed for civilian use. It received a cash prize, business consulting, and cartography licences co-funded by GEPAS

These tailored services have aided the company in advancing its technology and selling it on the market. Just recently, CatUAV opened the BCN Drone Center near Barcelona – one of only 10 test areas for UAVs worldwide. The Spanish government authorised CatUAV to use 2,500 hectares of segregated airspace for UAV flights and approved an obstacle-free UAV airfield spanning a further four hectares. This was a great step forward, as the new BCN Drone Center offers workshops, a hangar, offices, a ground control station, and other facilities needed to develop and test UAV systems.
